About Dr Kanewala Jayasekara (Dr Jay)

Dr Kanewala Jayasekara, known warmly by patients as Dr Jay, is a highly experienced Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist providing comprehensive women’s health care across Grafton and Coffs Harbour and surrounds. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, he is dedicated to delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care to women at every stage of life — from adolescence to menopause and beyond.
Dr Jay is committed to ensuring patients feel heard, respected, and fully informed about their care. His approach balances advanced medical knowledge with a warm, understanding manner that helps patients feel comfortable and supported throughout their health journey.
A Career Dedicated to Women’s Health
Dr Jay has completed extensive training both internationally and in Australia, holding multiple prestigious qualifications in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
He obtained his primary MBBS degree from Faculty of medicine, University of Colombo in 2000. Then entered in to post graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and obtained Postgraduate MD in obstetrics and Gynaeciology from Postgraduate Institute in Medicine, Colombo in 2007.
He further underwent training in United Kingdom and obtained Membership of Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists in UK in 2011.
Later he obtained Membership of Sri Lankan College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2012 and Board certified as a specialist Obstetrician and gynaecologist in Sri Lanka.
Later he came to Australia and had further training in SWSLHD (South Western Sydney Local health District) and obtained Fellowship from RANZCOG (Royal Australian New Zealand college of Obstetrician and gynaecologists) in 2018 and obtained registration as a specialist Obstetrician and gynaecologist.
In 2025 he has been elevated to the fellowship by Royal (UK) and Sri Lankan colleges of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Furthermore, he obtained the Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound after training in ultrasound in obstetrics and Gynaecology. Also, accreditation as an advanced laparoscopic surgeon from Northern NSWLHD.
